Kuwait reports deadly escalation after Iranian counterstrikes
Missile and drone exchanges hit Kuwait as US strikes Iran and provokes regional security situation
KUWAIT CITY, Kuwait (MNTV) – Kuwait said it suffered a deadly escalation following Iranian counterstrikes, as Washington and Tehran exchanged sharply conflicting accounts of responsibility and the region edged further into a broader cycle of retaliation and counterstrikes.
Kuwaiti authorities reported that one person was killed and several others injured after incoming attacks targeted what Iran described as US-used military infrastructure.
The strikes also targeted Kuwait International Airport, which sustained significant damage and forced temporary disruption to air operations.
Officials also confirmed that parts of the airport complex and unspecified diplomatic facilities were affected, underscoring the vulnerability of civilian sites amid escalating military confrontation.
Iranian sources said the strikes were carried out as retaliation for earlier US military strikes in the region, including reported attacks on Iranian-linked facilities near Qeshm Island.
Tehran’s Revolutionary Guard claimed it had targeted US military assets in Kuwait and Bahrain, describing the operations as a response to what it called ongoing American aggression against Iranian territory and maritime interests.
The United States military rejected Iran’s account, asserting that its forces intercepted multiple missiles and drones launched toward Gulf partners and carried out retaliatory strikes against Iranian positions.
US Central Command maintained that Iranian projectiles failed to hit intended targets, presenting a starkly different version of events as tensions intensified.
The exchange comes amid a rapidly widening regional confrontation that has already disrupted Gulf airspace and maritime routes, with analysts warning that continued escalation risks further destabilizing energy corridors and civilian infrastructure.
Iranian officials have repeatedly accused Washington of fueling instability through military operations in and around the Strait of Hormuz, while US officials insist their actions are defensive and aimed at deterring further attacks.
Regional actors, including Gulf states, have called for restraint as the confrontation deepens alongside parallel conflicts involving Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon, which Iranian officials link to the broader security crisis.
Despite intermittent diplomatic messaging, both sides appear entrenched in competing narratives, with no clear breakthrough in sight.
