Israeli airstrikes kill 17 in Lebanon amid ceasefire talks
Air raids and drone attacks hit multiple towns despite ongoing truce and US-mediated negotiations between Lebanon and Israel
BEIRUT, Lebanon (MNTV) — At least 17 people were killed and 64 others were injured Tuesday in a series of Israeli airstrikes and drone attacks across southern Lebanon, despite an ongoing ceasefire and a fourth round of U.S.-mediated talks between Lebanese and Israeli officials in Washington.
Lebanon’s Health Ministry said five people were killed and 48 injured in Israeli strikes targeting the towns of Burj al-Shamali, Abba and Tebnine, according to Anadolu Agency.
In a separate attack, a dentist and his two children were killed when an Israeli drone struck their vehicle on the Nabatieh-Khardali road, Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency reported.
Another drone strike killed two Syrian workers at a plant nursery in the town of Jebchit. Two more people were killed in separate attacks targeting a motorcycle in Toul and a vehicle in Ansar, the agency said.
An Israeli drone also struck a car at the Harouf-Toul roundabout, killing the driver.
In the Tyre district, two people were killed in a strike on the town of Shhour, while another attack on Burj al-Shamali killed two people and wounded 14 others.
Israeli warplanes also bombed a Lebanese Civil Defense center on the Masil road in Kfar Sir, destroying the facility. The center had been evacuated several days earlier, according to NNA.
Additional strikes hit a house in Tyre’s al-Hosh neighborhood, leveling the structure and damaging nearby homes. Rescue teams recovered two injured people from the rubble and transported them to a hospital.
The Lebanese army said two soldiers were moderately wounded in an Israeli drone strike on the Habboush-Deir al-Zahrani road in the Nabatieh area.
The latest violence came as Lebanese and Israeli officials held a fourth round of U.S.-sponsored talks in Washington aimed at preserving the ceasefire and addressing unresolved security concerns.
Israel has continued near-daily airstrikes and limited ground operations in Lebanon despite a ceasefire that took effect April 17 and was later extended by Washington through early July.
According to Lebanon’s Health Ministry, Israeli attacks since March 2 have killed 3,468 people and injured 10,577 others nationwide.
Israel continues to hold several positions in southern Lebanon, including areas occupied for decades as well as territory seized during the 2023-24 conflict. Israeli forces have also advanced several kilometers into Lebanese territory during the current hostilities.
