Iran, Russia sign $25B agreement to build four nuclear power plants
Deal covers construction of advanced third-generation facilities in southern Iran’s Hormozgan Province
TEHRAN, Iran (MNTV) — Iran and Russia have finalized a $25 billion agreement for the construction of four nuclear power plants in Sirik, located in Hormozgan Province, officials confirmed on Friday.
The deal, signed between Iran Hormoz Company and Russia’s state-owned Rosatom, will see the development of advanced third-generation reactors, marking a significant expansion of Iran’s nuclear energy infrastructure.
Behrouz Kamalvandi, spokesman for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), said in Moscow that the new facilities would exceed the scale of the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant, Iran’s first operational plant.
The announcement came on the sidelines of Russia’s World Atom Week (WAW) Atom Expo 2025, attended by an Iranian delegation led by AEOI chief Mohammad Eslami. Kamalvandi praised Russian cooperation, noting that Bushehr’s operations already comply with international standards.
The four planned reactors are expected to play a strategic role in Iran’s long-term energy security while deepening Tehran’s technological and economic ties with Moscow.
