India targeting Azerbaijan in global forums over Pakistan ties, says Aliyev
Azerbaijani and Pakistani leaders meet in Tianjin, discuss trade, regional cooperation, and trilateral partnership with Türkiye
BAKU, Azerbaijan (MNTV) — Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said India is seeking “revenge” against Azerbaijan in international organizations because of Baku’s support for Pakistan.
Aliyev made the remarks during a meeting with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in the northern Chinese city of Tianjin, according to a statement from the Azerbaijani presidency.
Sharif expressed gratitude on behalf of Pakistan’s government and people, praising Azerbaijan’s solidarity during Islamabad’s April–May confrontation with India.
He also reiterated the importance of the trilateral partnership between Azerbaijan, Türkiye, and Pakistan, highlighting his past official visits to Baku.
Aliyev congratulated Pakistan on what he described as its “victory” over India, stressing that despite New Delhi’s actions in global forums, Azerbaijan places priority on “brotherhood” in its relations with Islamabad.
He noted that Azerbaijan was moving to implement decisions from previous trilateral meetings.
The Azerbaijani leader also underlined the role of U.S. President Donald Trump in strengthening Baku’s ties with Washington, pointing to his recent visit to the U.S. capital as a milestone in bilateral cooperation.
Discussions between the two leaders focused on expanding economic and trade collaboration through the Azerbaijani-Pakistani intergovernmental commission.
Sharif also congratulated Aliyev on progress in the peace process with Armenia, which Aliyev described as essential for securing long-term stability in the South Caucasus.
Both sides reaffirmed that their partnership extends beyond politics, rooted in historical, cultural, and strategic ties, with defense, trade, and regional security emerging as key areas of cooperation.
