Australian Islamic fintech Hejaz prepares global launch of Muslim-focused super app
Islamic finance company plans to launch its Wahda platform in August, offering social networking, communication, and faith-based AI services
MELBOURNE, Australia (MNTV) — Australian Islamic finance company Hejaz is preparing to launch a new digital platform aimed at serving Muslim communities worldwide, marking a significant expansion beyond its traditional financial services business, reports CFOtech.
The platform, called Wahda — derived from the Arabic word for “unity” — is expected to launch globally in August and will initially offer communication, social networking, community, and AI-based services. Hejaz chief executive Hakan Ozyon said the company has spent several years expanding its technology capabilities, increasing investment in software development and artificial intelligence as part of a broader business transformation.
Founded as an Islamic financial services provider, Hejaz is best known for its Halal Money app, which offers Shariah-compliant financial products to customers in Australia and other markets.
According to Ozyon, the company now views technology as a core part of its growth strategy, with financial services becoming one of several segments within a larger digital ecosystem.
The platform’s design was influenced by major digital platforms in both Western and Asian markets, particularly China’s WeChat, which integrates a wide range of services within a single application. Wahda is designed to operate according to Islamic ethical principles but will not be restricted to Muslim users.
At launch, the platform is expected to include messaging and video communication tools, social media functions, community features such as maps and location services, and an AI-powered service called “AI Imam,” intended to provide faith-related information drawn from a curated database rather than the open internet.
Approximately 300 services are planned for the platform over time, to be introduced in later phases. Financial products are not among the initial offerings but may be integrated at a later stage.
Around 1,000 content creators have already joined the platform ahead of launch, according to the company.
