Afghan Muay Thai athletes win 10 medals in Asian championships
Afghan Muay Thai fighters returned from the Asian Championships in Uzbekistan with 10 medals, receiving a celebratory welcome
KABUL, Afghanistan (MNTV) — Afghan Muay Thai fighters returned from the Asian Championships in Uzbekistan with 10 medals, receiving a celebratory welcome from Afghanistan’s Olympics, Physical Education and Sports Department, Pajhwok Afghan News reported.
At a ceremony in Kabul, department head Mawlawi Ahmadullah Wasiq praised the athletes, saying their performance brought “pride and joy” to the country. Afghan fighters earned two gold, four silver and four bronze medals.
Abdul Sadiq Ebrahimi, deputy head of the Afghan Muay Thai Federation, said the championships ran from Nov. 10–16 with participants from 13 countries. Afghanistan sent 17 athletes, including 13 competitors.
Gold medalist Ali Jan Ebrahimi said he was thrilled to compete internationally for the first time and won after defeating three Uzbek opponents.
Separately, at the sixth Islamic Solidarity Games hosted by Saudi Arabia, Afghan athlete Mohammadyousuf Jahangirearned another Muay Thai gold.
