Palestinians say Gaza ceasefire has failed to end Israeli devastation
Year after truce, displaced families still face Israeli strikes, severe shortages, destroyed homes and uncertain prospects for reconstruction
GAZA, Palestine (MNTV) — Palestinians in Gaza say a year of ceasefire arrangements has failed to deliver meaningful peace, as Israeli attacks continue, reconstruction remains stalled, and hundreds of thousands of displaced people struggle to survive.
According to a report published by SBS News, residents continue to endure displacement, inadequate humanitarian assistance and repeated Israeli strikes despite the agreement’s stated objectives.
Fatima Awkal, a displaced woman in Gaza City, said conditions had deteriorated rather than improved. Other residents described continuing shelling, injuries and the persistent presence of Israeli surveillance drones overhead.
Israel continues to control approximately 70 percent of Gaza, while the reconstruction of the devastated territory has yet to materialize on the scale promised under the ceasefire arrangements.
Ahmed Jonaid, a 51-year-old displaced Palestinian, said he had expected to return home after the truce. Instead, he remains in a displacement camp, sleeping on makeshift bedding.
The humanitarian consequences of Israel’s genocidal assault remain immense. United Nations figures cited in the report indicated that 82 percent of Gaza’s standing structures had been damaged or destroyed by mid-2026.
Many families continue living in overcrowded tents and makeshift shelters, where inadequate sanitation contributes to disease. Residents also face shortages of drinking water, food and financial assistance.
Israel controls Gaza’s entry points and continues to restrict the flow of humanitarian supplies, keeping essential goods expensive and difficult to obtain.
Doctors and displaced residents say the ceasefire has made little difference to daily life. Families remain unable to return to their homes, while humanitarian needs continue to exceed available assistance.
Meanwhile, thousands of demonstrators marched in London, Berlin and Dublin, demanding an end to Israeli attacks and calling for accountability over the devastation in Gaza.
Protesters in London carried banners condemning genocide and supporting Palestinian freedom. Demonstrators in Berlin also criticised German arms exports to Israel.
The continuing destruction, displacement and deprivation have intensified demands for meaningful international action. For Gaza’s residents, the ceasefire remains an inadequate promise while Israel’s military control and humanitarian restrictions continue.
