Harmattan AI expands drone projects and operations in Morocco
French defense technology firm establishes Rabat engineering center and prepares for drone production after recruiting 50 engineers
RABAT, Morocco (MNTV) — French defense technology company Harmattan AI has established an engineering center in Rabat and is preparing to begin mass production of drones in Morocco after recruiting 50 engineers.
According to North Africa Post, the Paris-based company specializes in autonomous drones and artificial intelligence-based defense systems. It is led by Franco-Moroccan co-founder Mouad M’Ghari.
Harmattan AI signed a strategic partnership with Morocco’s Royal Armed Forces in June to support the deployment of autonomous air defense capabilities and contribute to the development of a technologically advanced domestic defense industry.
Under the partnership, the company has also committed to supporting the creation of a research and development center focused on artificial intelligence for defense applications.
Harmattan AI said it would additionally work with Moroccan universities and research institutions as part of efforts to develop local expertise in defense technology and artificial intelligence.
The company was established in 2024 and develops autonomous military systems, including uncrewed aerial platforms designed for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance as well as strike missions.
Its portfolio also includes layered counter-drone and air-defense systems, electronic warfare payloads, and command-and-control and mission-level autonomy software.
Harmattan AI also develops artificial intelligence systems designed to operate directly on military platforms, as well as production methods for scalable autonomous systems.
The company said its activities extend to cooperation with defense customers in allied countries.
Harmattan AI has offices in France, Morocco, Switzerland, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom and the United States.
The expansion of its operations in Morocco follows the strategic agreement with the Royal Armed Forces and reflects the company’s plans to develop engineering, research and production capabilities in the country.
The establishment of the Rabat engineering center and recruitment of 50 engineers mark the latest steps in Harmattan AI’s Moroccan projects as it prepares for the planned production of drones locally.
