Iran warns no Gulf port will be safe after US imposes naval blockade
IRGC says security of ports in Gulf and Sea of Oman is 'either for everyone or for no one'
TEHRAN, Iran (MNTV) – Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps warned Monday that “no port in the Gulf and the Sea of Oman will be safe” after the United States imposed a blockade on all traffic entering and leaving Iranian ports in the Strait of Hormuz, threatening to extend maritime insecurity across the entire region.
“The security of ports in the Gulf and the Sea of Oman is either for everyone or for no one,” the IRGC said in a statement carried by state broadcaster IRIB. It described Washington’s blockade as “illegal” and tantamount to “piracy,” adding that Iran “considers the defense of the country’s legal rights a natural and lawful duty” and that “the exercise of sovereignty over Iran’s territorial waters is a natural right of the Iranian nation.”
The IRGC said “enemy-affiliated vessels” would be denied passage through the Strait of Hormuz, while other ships may transit subject to regulations set by Tehran. Citing “continuing enemy threats,” it warned that Iran “will firmly implement a permanent mechanism for controlling the Strait of Hormuz” even after the war ends.
Washington announced it would enforce the blockade on Iranian ports effective 1400 GMT Monday. The move came after rare direct talks between the US and Iran in Islamabad, Pakistan on Saturday ended without an agreement. The conflict began February 28 with a joint US-Israeli offensive on Iran.
