Canada condemns Israel for its ‘unlawful invasion’ of Lebanon
Ottawa criticizes Israeli military assault as sovereignty violation while rising civilian deaths expose scale of destruction across Lebanese territory
HAMILTON, Canada (MNTV) — Canada’s Prime Minister Mark Carney has sharply condemned Israel’s ongoing military incursion into Lebanon, labeling it an illegal invasion and a direct breach of the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Speaking at a press conference in Quebec, Carney denounced Israel’s actions as a clear violation of international law, dismissing its justification for the offensive as unconvincing and politically motivated.
He noted that the Lebanese government has already taken formal steps against Hezbollah, including banning the group and attempting to limit its activities.
Carney stressed that Israel’s claims of self-defense ring hollow given Lebanon’s own efforts to address Hezbollah, arguing that the invasion reflects a broader pattern of unchecked military aggression rather than legitimate security concerns.
He reiterated Canada’s condemnation, adding to growing international criticism of Israel’s conduct.
Israel has intensified its assault with sustained airstrikes and a ground offensive in southern Lebanon following cross-border tensions earlier this month.
The escalation has triggered alarm over disproportionate force and the worsening humanitarian crisis.
Lebanese authorities report that at least 1,247 people have been killed and 3,690 injured, underscoring the devastating toll on civilians as Israel’s campaign continues with little restraint.
Analysts warn the offensive risks further destabilizing the region while deepening human suffering.
