4 Israeli soldiers killed as invasion pushes deeper Lebanon
Escalating ground offensive deepens humanitarian crisis while calls for annexation expose broader territorial ambitions behind Israeli strikes
BEIRUT, Lebanon (MNTV) — Israel’s military has confirmed the deaths of four of its soldiers during ongoing combat operations in southern Lebanon, as its forces push deeper into the country amid intensifying clashes with Hezbollah fighters.
In official statements, the Israeli army said the soldiers were killed in a single combat incident, with additional troops reported wounded.
The fatalities bring the total number of Israeli soldiers killed since early March to at least ten, following a surge in hostilities triggered after a joint United States-Israeli escalation involving Iran.
Despite mounting losses, Israel has significantly widened its ground offensive, targeting multiple areas across southern Lebanon and extending operations toward the Litani River.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered further expansion of the invasion, framing it as the creation of a so-called “buffer zone,” a move widely seen as a pretext for long-term territorial control.
Israeli forces have carried out widespread airstrikes and drone attacks, including deadly strikes near Tyre and other areas, killing civilians and destroying infrastructure.
Lebanese authorities report more than 1,200 deaths and over a million people displaced, underscoring the devastating humanitarian impact of the assault.
The escalation has also affected international forces, with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon confirming the deaths of multiple peacekeepers in recent incidents, further raising alarm over the widening scope of the conflict.
Israeli officials have signaled intentions to maintain a long-term military presence inside Lebanese territory.
Defense Minister Israel Katz stated that Israeli forces would establish and hold a “security zone” within Lebanon, effectively preventing displaced civilians from returning and paving the way for systematic destruction of border villages.
Far-right figures within Israel’s government, including Bezalel Smotrich, have openly called for altering Israel’s borders through annexation of southern Lebanon, reinforcing concerns that the offensive is aimed at permanent territorial expansion rather than temporary military objectives.
Analysts warn that the deepening invasion, coupled with continued US backing, risks further destabilizing the region while entrenching a cycle of violence and large-scale civilian suffering.
