Army chief declares long-awaited election day has arrived
General called on citizens to participate without hesitation, characterizing the day as critically important for nation
DHAKA (MNTV) – Bangladesh’s top military officer expressed satisfaction Thursday that the moment he had anticipated for eighteen months—a credible electoral process—had finally come.
General Waker-Uz-Zaman, Chief of Army Staff, spoke to reporters following his own vote at the Adamjee Cantonment College polling station, stating that nationwide reports indicated orderly proceedings.
“Today, the election is underway. A congenial atmosphere for voting is prevailing. I have received information from across the country, and as per my reports, voting is going on peacefully everywhere,” he said.
The general called on citizens to participate without hesitation, characterizing the day as critically important for the nation and reaffirming his dedication to safeguarding electoral integrity.
“I urge all voters to go to polling centres and cast their votes without fear. Today is a very important day for us,” he added.
General Waker-Uz-Zaman also acknowledged journalists’ contributions, observing that despite being unable to vote themselves, media workers perform an essential function by keeping the public informed about conditions on the ground and motivating voter participation.
