Malaysia’s UAE maritime mission surpasses target
Malaysia secured 404.17 million ringgit ($98 million) in export sales from a four-day trade mission to the UAE
KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (MNTV) – Malaysia secured 404.17 million ringgit ($98 million) in export sales from a four-day trade mission to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), more than double its initial 200 million ringgit ($48 million) target, reports NST.
The Export Acceleration Mission on the Maritime Industry to Abu Dhabi and Dubai involved 10 Malaysian maritime companies spanning shipbuilding and repair, marine engineering, ship design, port services and offshore support services.
Led by Malaysia External Trade Development Corp (Matrade), the programme aimed to build strategic business networks and strengthen Malaysia’s presence in the global maritime supply chain.
Delegates engaged in targeted business-to-business sessions and key industrial visits to deepen collaboration with major UAE maritime players.
Matrade said the stronger-than-expected sales reflect the rising competitiveness and strategic relevance of Malaysian maritime capabilities.
It added that the mission’s timing enabled participants to tap the market access and facilitation benefits under the recently concluded Malaysia-UAE Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement.
“The success of this mission is a testament to the strong alignment between Malaysia’s deep expertise in areas like offshore support vessels and the UAE’s rapidly expanding port and offshore industries.
“It marks a critical step toward Malaysia’s ambition to become the primary maritime service hub for the Maritime Silk Route to the Middle East region,” Matrade said.
The Association of Marine Industries Malaysia said the country’s maritime sector holds a competitive advantage due to its proximity to major regional oil and gas operations, supported by a proven performance record.
Malaysia has delivered about 300 offshore support vessels globally since 2005, underscoring its technical depth and positioning the country as a credible destination for investment and collaboration with the UAE’s energy and maritime giants.
Malaysia’s maritime exports to the UAE amounted to 45.9 million ringgit ($11 million) in 2024, led by tugboats and pusher craft, cruise and cargo ships, and light vessels.
