Afghan women entrepreneurs showcase products at Kabul agricultural exhibition
Women entrepreneurs play key role at Kabul trade fair as Afghanistan’s farmers and producers seek wider domestic and export markets
KABUL, Afghanistan (MNTV) — Afghan women entrepreneurs are taking a leading role at one of the country’s largest agricultural and handicrafts exhibitions, displaying their products in Kabul alongside farmers and domestic producers.
According to ToloNews, the 33rd Exhibition of Agricultural, Livestock, and Handicraft Products at Badam Bagh has brought together more than 260 exhibitors, with women managing 56 booths.
Visitors have turned out in significant numbers, exploring a diverse range of items from carpets and traditional pillows to fruits, dairy goods, and livestock products.
Participants said the event provides a rare platform to promote their businesses, expand networks, and access new markets. Several noted that contracts were signed with companies during the exhibition, creating opportunities for their products to reach buyers across Afghanistan and abroad.
Women exhibitors emphasized the importance of visibility in sustaining livelihoods. “We are very happy to participate and to gain new ideas,” one entrepreneur said, noting that such gatherings allow women to demonstrate their role in the economy. Visitors echoed this sentiment, calling the strong female presence a source of pride and a sign of progress.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock, which organized the fair, reported high attendance and encouraged citizens to support domestic products.
Officials said the exhibition reflects both the strength of Afghanistan’s agricultural sector and the creativity of its artisans, underscoring the role of local production in reducing reliance on imports.
Analysts note that trade fairs of this kind not only boost Afghanistan’s agricultural and handicraft industries but also highlight the persistence of women-led businesses in maintaining a foothold in the country’s evolving economy.
