Jordan, India sign strategic deal for annual phosphate supply
Agreement secures 500,000 tonnes of Jordanian phosphate for Indian fertilizer producer Coromandel
AMMAN, Jordan (MNTV) — The Jordan Phosphate Mines Company (JPMC) has signed a major agreement with India’s Coromandel International Ltd to supply 500,000 tonnes of phosphate annually, starting in April 2026, in a move set to boost economic and industrial ties between the two countries.
The deal was formalized at JPMC’s Industrial Complex in Aqaba, with JPMC CEO Abdel Wahab Rawad and Coromandel Managing Director and CEO S.
Sankarasubramanian signing the agreement. The ceremony was attended by JPMC Chairman Mohammed Thneibat and Coromandel Chairman Arun Alagappan.
The agreement is intended to supply Coromandel’s new manufacturing facilities in India with high-grade Jordanian phosphate, reinforcing Jordan’s status as a key player in the global fertilizer supply chain.
Coromandel, a leading Indian producer of phosphate fertilizers and phosphoric acid, is also a strategic partner in the Jordan India Fertiliser Company, co-owned by JPMC.
Thneibat described the deal as a “strategic milestone” that underscores Jordan’s growing role in international phosphate markets.
He highlighted that the partnership not only strengthens economic relations with India but also supports Jordan’s economy through foreign investment in the phosphate and fertilizer industries.
“This agreement further positions Jordan as a primary supplier of quality phosphate and expands our global partnerships, particularly with major Indian and international firms,” Thneibat said. He added that JPMC is working to broaden its global reach and foster additional partnerships across the phosphate sector.
Alagappan commended the collaboration, stressing that the agreement reflects deep trust in Jordan’s phosphate sector. “Jordan Phosphate Mines Company has established strong credibility in the Indian market, and this agreement opens the door for wider industrial and commercial cooperation between our two countries,” he said.
The deal marks a significant step in strengthening bilateral ties, while ensuring stable supplies for India’s growing agricultural sector and enhancing Jordan’s role in the international fertilizer market.
