Pakistan to nominate Donald Trump for 2026 Nobel Peace Prize
Islamabad credits U.S. president with diplomacy during 2025 India standoff; New Delhi disputes role in ceasefire talks
ISLAMABAD (MNTV) — Pakistan announced Friday it will formally nominate U.S. President Donald J. Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, citing his role in mediating the 2025 military standoff with India. The crisis, which escalated dangerously close to war, was defused through what Islamabad calls “decisive diplomatic intervention.”
In a statement shared on social media platform X, Pakistani officials lauded Trump’s leadership in securing a ceasefire between two nuclear-armed nations after what they described as “unprovoked and unlawful Indian aggression.”
Islamabad claims the conflict began in May with cross-border violations that caused civilian casualties and infringed on Pakistan’s sovereignty. The Pakistani military responded with Operation Bunyanum Marsoos, a campaign framed as a defensive measure to restore deterrence without targeting civilians.
At the peak of tensions, President Trump reportedly led intensive diplomatic efforts to avert further escalation.
“His intervention stands as a testament to his commitment to dialogue-driven conflict resolution,” the Pakistani government stated, crediting Trump with averting a humanitarian catastrophe.
Now in his second term following a 2024 electoral victory, Trump has described his efforts as pivotal, claiming both India and Pakistan reached a ceasefire through U.S.-mediated talks.
He also urged both nations to shift their focus toward economic cooperation.
However, India disputes this narrative. Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri maintains the ceasefire resulted from direct communication between the two militaries, dismissing external mediation as a factor.
Pakistan’s statement also highlighted Trump’s expressed willingness to mediate the Kashmir dispute, arguing that regional peace hinges on implementing UN Security Council resolutions on the matter.
“His sincere offers to mediate reflect his legacy as a peacemaker,” officials noted.
The announcement comes amid speculation over Trump’s global diplomatic stance, particularly regarding escalating tensions between Israel and Iran. Pakistani officials emphasized that Trump’s response to Middle Eastern conflicts would heavily influence his image as a global peacemaker.
“We are yet to see if the United States will support Israel’s campaign against Iran,” the statement read. “If President Trump seeks to solidify his credentials as an ambassador for peace, his choices in this crisis will be critical.”
As Trump’s administration positions itself as a stabilizing force in global politics, his handling of the Israel-Iran crisis could ultimately define whether he lives up to the reputation Islamabad is endorsing.
