Tehran to host Publishing Fellowship with participants from 34 countries
Event to run alongside Tehran International Book Fair, spotlighting global publishing collaboration
TEHRAN, Iran (MNTV) — Iran is set to host the first edition of the Tehran Publishing Fellowship Program, drawing 91 applicants from 34 countries as part of a broader initiative to strengthen the country’s role in the international publishing community.
Scheduled to take place in the Iranian capital from May 12 to 15, the fellowship will coincide with the 36th Tehran International Book Fair (TIBF), according to IRNA News.
Of the 91 international applicants, 30 publishers will be selected based on criteria evaluated by a judging panel.
The registered publishers represent a wide geographic range, including countries such as Argentina, Bangladesh, China, Egypt, India, Italy, Kazakhstan, Nigeria, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Vietnam.
Alongside international participants, 64 Iranian publishers have also registered for the program, with 40 expected to be selected for the final cohort.
The Tehran Publishing Fellowship Program focuses on facilitating global rights sales and fostering relationships among publishers, literary agents, and authors.
This year’s fellowship places particular emphasis on children’s and young adult literature.
The initiative is supported by Iran’s Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance through programs such as the Grant Program and the Translation of Persia (TOP) project.
The Grant Program encourages international publishing houses to acquire Iranian titles, while the TOP initiative promotes translations of Persian literature into other languages.
The 36th Tehran International Book Fair will be held at Imam Khomeini Mosalla from May 7 to 17 under the motto “Let’s Read for Iran.”
