600-year-old mosque reopens in Thailand
Symbol of Islamic heritage in Southeast Asia revived after two-year structural restoration
PHRA NAKHON SI AYUTTHAYA, Thailand (MNTV) — The historic Kudi Chua Mosque in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya has officially reopened following the completion of a two-year structural restoration project.
Regarded as one of Thailand’s oldest examples of Islamic architecture, the 600-year-old mosque stands as a testament to the deep-rooted presence of Muslims in the ancient Kingdom of Siam.
According to Asharq Al-Awsat, it is more than a place of worship — it is a living witness to the long-standing connection between the Islamic world and Southeast Asia’s maritime trade networks in past centuries.
Government and religious officials attended the reopening ceremony.
Thai cultural authorities said preserving the six-century-old landmark reflects the country’s commitment to protecting religious diversity and honouring the cultural legacy of its Muslim community.
