Young Azerbaijani artists spotlight Karabakh through new exhibition in Baku
“Colors of Karabakh – 2025” project showcases youth creativity and supports cultural restoration
BAKU, Azerbaijan (MNTV) – A new exhibition celebrating the beauty and heritage of Karabakh through the eyes of young Azerbaijani artists opened on April 15 at the QGallery art gallery in Baku.
The showcase features 38 paintings created by students from the Azerbaijan State Academy of Fine Arts (ASAF) and the Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts (ASUCA).
The artworks were produced during a masterclass led by Inga Schmidt, a renowned German artist and professor at the Berlin Academy of Arts, reported Azertag News.
The exhibition is part of the “Colors of Karabakh – 2025” initiative, supported by the Karabakh Revival Fund (KRF), which aims to develop emerging artistic talent while contributing to the cultural revitalization of the Karabakh region.
Prominent figures from Azerbaijan’s cultural and academic sectors attended the opening ceremony, including Rahman Hajiyev, Chairman of the Executive Board of the KRF; People’s Artist Professor Natig Aliyev; honored artist Professor Jeyran Mahmudova; and people’s artist Professor Salhab Mammadov.
In his remarks, Hajiyev emphasized the symbolic and national importance of the young artists’ work. “These paintings reflect the rich nature, historical sites, and the ongoing reconstruction of Karabakh under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev,” he said.
He added that the participating artists were selected from hundreds of applicants for the final phase of the project.
The “Colors of Karabakh” initiative has previously achieved notable success. In 2024, 23 student artists presented 19 paintings and 4 sculptures, which were sold for a combined 90,200 AZN.
The proceeds were directed toward the restoration of the historic Imaret complex of Panahali Khan in Aghdam.
Organizers confirmed that the 2025 edition of the project is progressing, with the selection process complete and students now working on sketches for the final exhibition.
Speakers at the event, including Professors Aliyev, Mammadov, and Mahmudova, praised the project for its role in nurturing a new generation of creative talent and deepening the cultural connection to Karabakh.
The ceremony concluded with the presentation of certificates to the young artists, followed by a tour of the gallery and commemorative photographs.
