Uzbekistan begins work on satellite with built-in AI module
Samarkand-2028 satellite to support Earth monitoring as Uzbekistan ramps up AI use in healthcare, ecology, education and transport
TASHKENT, Uzbekistan (MNTV) — Uzbekistan has begun developing the Samarkand-2028 satellite, a next-generation spacecraft equipped with an artificial intelligence module for monitoring air quality, crops and forest conditions, Asia-Plus reported.
The initiative was discussed during a Dec. 1 meeting led by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, where officials reviewed the rapid expansion of AI in ecology, healthcare, education and transportation, according to the presidential press service, as cited by Fergana News.
In healthcare, Mirziyoyev highlighted progress in AI-based diagnostics for strokes and breast cancer, which have reduced diagnostic time by 80 percent. Five major AI-powered medical projects are underway.
The president ordered the expansion of AI diagnostics to include liver, lung and prostate cancers, heart attacks and complex fractures. New imaging-analysis systems will be deployed to improve accuracy and speed.
Officials also stressed the need for more AI specialists. Starting next academic year, schools and universities will introduce new AI curricula, supported by teacher training programs. A virtual assistant platform will help educators prepare lessons, tests and presentations.
In transport, new proposals include AI tools for automated traffic violation monitoring and improving oversight of railway infrastructure.
Uzbekistan has adopted an AI development strategy through 2030, launched a specialized center under the Digital Technologies Ministry and is building a supercomputer cluster in partnership with Nvidia to accelerate research across sectors.
