US to use AI to revoke visas of students supporting Palestine
Secretary of State Marco Rubio has announced that the U.S. will revoke visas and deport foreign nationals who express support for Hamas.
The move has been called “Catch and Revoke”.
It will use AI to scan social media accounts of international students for pro-Hamas content.
AI will also track foreign nationals to detect their support for groups whom the administration designates “terrorist organisations.”
This follows President Donald Trump’s recent executive order to combat antisemitism, which could lead to deportations.
Critics argue the policy aims to suppress free-Palestine protests in universities and public spaces.
It remains unclear how authorities will determine Hamas support.
Rubio said the U.S. has “zero tolerance” for visitors backing terrorism, emphasizing national security risks.
The State Department has not detailed how the AI system will operate or what content will be flagged.
