US president warns Israeli prime minister on West Bank annexation move
U.S. President Donald Trump warned that any Israeli move to annex the West Bank would result in the loss of all American support
WASHINGTON, United States (MNTV) – U.S. President Donald Trump warned that any Israeli move to annex the West Bank would result in the loss of all American support — his strongest rebuke yet of the proposal amid growing tensions with Israeli lawmakers.
Speaking to Time magazine on October 15, Trump said he had assured Arab countries that annexation would not occur, stressing Israel must uphold regional commitments.
“It won’t happen because I gave my word to the Arab countries,” Trump said. “Israel would lose all of its support from the United States if that happened.”
His remarks came a day after the Knesset passed a preliminary bill to apply Israeli sovereignty to all West Bank settlements, despite opposition from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The vote, 25–24, drew criticism from Washington and exposed friction between the two governments.
Trump’s deputy, JD Vance, called the move “very stupid,” underscoring U.S. frustration with Israeli lawmakers pressing for annexation.
Trump reiterated that he would not permit such actions, emphasizing, “There’s been enough. It’s time to stop now.” He also expressed optimism that Israel and Saudi Arabia could normalize ties by year’s end.
