US envoys meet Netanyahu for Gaza ceasefire talks ahead of VP Vance visit
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met Monday with US Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner
JERUSALEM (MNTV) — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met Monday with US Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff and former White House adviser Jared Kushner to discuss the Gaza ceasefire agreement and recent regional developments, according to an Israeli government spokesperson.
“Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner met with the prime minister today and discussed current developments in the region,” spokesperson Shosh Bedrosian said.
She added that US Vice President JD Vance will soon visit Israel for further talks with Netanyahu, though no specific date was given.
Witkoff and Kushner arrived in Israel early Monday for discussions with Israeli officials on the implementation of the Gaza ceasefire deal with Hamas.
According to the daily Haaretz, the talks focused on the second phase of the agreement — including the establishment of a multinational force in Gaza, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the enclave, and the disarmament of Hamas.
The meeting also aimed to prepare for Vice President Vance’s visit, expected to begin Tuesday, during which he will hold further discussions on the ceasefire’s next steps.
On Sept. 29, former President Donald Trump unveiled a 20-point plan for Gaza that called for an immediate ceasefire and a phased release of hostages and prisoners. The first phase of the deal, brokered by the US, Türkiye, Qatar, and Egypt, took effect on Oct. 10 after both Israel and Hamas agreed to its terms.
Since October 2023, Israel’s war on Gaza has killed more than 68,200 Palestinians and injured over 170,000, according to the Gaza Health Ministry.
