UAE and Kuwait advance new space cooperation
Joint initiatives aim to expand Arab scientific capabilities, strengthen research exchange, and accelerate regional space-sector growth
KUWAIT CITY, Kuwait (MNTV) — Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates have taken a significant step toward deeper regional space cooperation following a meeting between Kuwait’s Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah and Salem Humaid AlMarri, Director General of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre.
The two sides discussed expanding joint work in space science, technology development, and advanced research during the official visit to Bayan Palace, according to local news sources.
Officials from the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS), Kuwait Direct Investment Promotion Authority, and the UAE Embassy in Kuwait also attended the meeting, which focused on expanding cooperation in space science, technology development, and advanced research.
During the visit, MBRSC and KFAS signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding establishing a broad framework for joint work in space exploration, remote sensing, applied research, and satellite development.
The agreement includes mechanisms for sharing technical expertise and launching specialized training programs for engineers, researchers, and students in both countries.
It also provides a pathway for developing joint scientific projects aligned with long-term innovation and sustainable development goals.
MBRSC said the meeting with Kuwait’s leadership underscores the growing importance of scientific partnerships across the Arab region.
The Center noted that its cooperation with KFAS is intended not only to formalize collaboration, but also to support the development of an integrated Arab space ecosystem built on knowledge exchange, human-capital development, and sustained scientific cooperation.
The Center added that the agreement will help advance Kuwait’s ambitions to build a strong research base capable of contributing to regional space initiatives.
KFAS stated that the MoU strengthens Kuwait’s emerging space program by facilitating technical collaboration with MBRSC, particularly in satellite technology, remote-sensing applications, and scientific research.
The agreement also supports workshops, training programs, and joint research activities that will prepare young Kuwaitis for careers in space science and advanced engineering.
KFAS highlighted that the MoU complements its work to establish the Kuwait National Centre for Space Research, created with Amiri support in partnership with Kuwait University.
The Center serves as a national platform for coordinating space-related activities, expanding research capacity, and preparing local talent to participate in advanced space missions, satellite design initiatives, and scientific research projects.
MBRSC said the collaboration reflects a shared regional vision to deepen Arab cooperation in space science, strengthen educational and research capabilities, and advance a knowledge-based economy that positions the region more competitively in the global space sector.
