Turkish President: Türkiye and Syria to defend Syria’s territorial integrity
Whoever obstructs Syria’s path to permanent peace and stability will find us standing alongside Syrian government, Erdoğan says
ANKARA, Türkiye (MNTV)– Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said his country will not permit Syria to be divided.
He warned that any entity seeking to undermine the country’s territorial integrity would face resistance not only from Syria’s government but also from Ankara.
“Whoever obstructs Syria’s path to permanent peace and stability will find us standing alongside the Syrian government,” Erdoğan said during a press conference following a cabinet meeting. “Just as we didn’t allow a terror corridor to divide Syria before, we will not permit any other corridor to do so now.”
He emphasized that the possibility of returning to the pre–December 8 status quo in Syria was “off the table,” referring to what he described as a transformative new era beginning on that date. “As Syria stabilizes, the whole region stands to benefit,” he added.
Erdoğan also reviewed the recent Antalya Diplomacy Forum, calling it a significant platform to highlight Türkiye’s principled stance on regional conflicts, particularly in Syria and Gaza.
The U.S. and its allies in the West have been favouring autonomous regions for Kurds, and other ethnicities in Syria. But Turkiye and the Syrian government want a united Syria with control from Damascus.
“More than 6,000 participants from 155 countries attended,” he said. “We clearly expressed our positions on Syria, Gaza, and other regional matters. We once again declared that humanity is greater than the five —referring to the U.N. Security Council— and reaffirmed our support for the Palestinian people.”
The president underlined that Türkiye would continue promoting diplomacy, peace, and justice in a world increasingly marked by geopolitical tensions.
“Our foreign policy is now more actively shaped by both hard and soft power elements,” Erdoğan noted, adding that Türkiye is determined to play a key role in shaping the new global order.
