Trump: Putin wants to end Ukraine war
The meeting produced no breakthrough, but Trump framed it as a potentially meaningful step in pursuing a negotiated end to the conflict
WASHINGTON, United States (MNTV) – US President Donald Trump said Russian President Vladimir Putin appears open to ending the war in Ukraine, citing impressions from a recent meeting in Moscow attended by his envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
“Their impression was… he would like to see the war ended,” Trump told reporters, referring to the US representatives who participated in the discussions.
He described the talks as “reasonably good,” though he stressed that the outcome remains uncertain.
Speaking in the Oval Office, Trump said Russian officials “very strongly” signaled a desire for a deal. Witkoff and Kushner met with Putin in a session that stretched into the early hours of Wednesday.
“They had a very good meeting yesterday with President Putin,” Trump said. “What comes out of that meeting? I can’t tell you, because it does take two to tango.”
The meeting produced no breakthrough, but Trump framed it as a potentially meaningful step in pursuing a negotiated end to the conflict.
