Trump administration labels European Antifa groups as global terrorists
The Trump administration on Thursday designated four European Antifa-linked militant groups as Specially Designated Global Terrorists
WASHINGTON (MNTV) — The Trump administration on Thursday designated four European Antifa-linked militant groups as Specially Designated Global Terrorists (SDGTs) and announced plans to list them as Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTOs), effective Nov. 20.
The State Department identified the groups as Germany’s Antifa Ost — also known as Antifa East or Hammerbande — Italy’s Informal Anarchist Federation/International Revolutionary Front (FAI/FRI), and two Greek organizations, Armed Proletarian Justice and Revolutionary Class Self-Defense.
The department accused the groups of carrying out attacks targeting government institutions, political entities, and capitalist interests across Europe.
According to the State Department, the designations reflect President Donald Trump’s “commitment to confronting Antifa’s campaign of political violence.”
The department described the groups as part of a wider network of “revolutionary anarchist or Marxist” organizations that promote “violent assaults domestically and abroad.”
The move follows Trump’s executive order issued two months ago, which labeled “Antifa” — a term used for far-left anti-fascist movements — as a “domestic terrorist organization.”
“I will also be strongly recommending that those funding ANTIFA be thoroughly investigated,” Trump wrote on Truth Social in September, describing the movement as “a sick, dangerous, radical left disaster.”
Antifa, according to a 2020 report by the Congressional Research Service, has no central leadership or unified structure, instead comprising “independent, radical, like-minded groups and individuals.”
