Syrian Kurds caution Iranian Kurds against acting on US behest
Warning comes as Iranian Kurdish militias reportedly consult Washington on possible actions against Tehran
QAMISHLI, Syria (MNTV) — Kurdish Kurds in northeast Syria have warned Iranian Kurdish groups against forming an alliance with the United States, saying their own experience of partnering with Washington ended in disappointment, as reported by Pakistan Today.
The caution follows reports that Iranian Kurdish militias based in northern Iraq have been holding consultations with US officials over potential operations targeting Iranian security forces in western Iran.
The reported talks come amid heightened regional tensions, as the United States and Israel have recently carried out airstrikes against targets inside Iran.
Syrian Kurds say their own history of cooperation with Washington offers a cautionary lesson.
Saad Ali, a 45-year-old resident of the northeastern Syrian city of Qamishli, said Kurdish groups in Iran should be wary of relying on US support.
He warned that geopolitical shifts could quickly leave Kurdish allies exposed if relations between Washington and Tehran were to change.
“Tomorrow, if they reach an agreement with the Iranians, they will abandon you,” he said, urging Iranian Kurds not to repeat what he described as the mistakes made by Syrian Kurdish groups.
Syrian Kurdish forces had worked closely with the United States for more than a decade, particularly during the campaign against the militant Islamic State group.
While that partnership helped defeat the group in much of Syria, many Kurdish fighters and residents say they later felt left without strong backing as regional dynamics evolved.
The warnings highlight growing uncertainty among Kurdish communities across the region, as different groups consider alliances and strategies while conflicts and international rivalries continue to reshape the Middle East.
