Somalia, Qatar sign new defence cooperation pact
Agreement reached during Doha defence exhibition aims to boost military coordination and joint security efforts
DOHA, Qatar (MNTV) — Somalia and Qatar have signed a new defense cooperation agreement aimed at strengthening military relations and enhancing security coordination between the two countries.
The agreement was signed by Somali Defence Minister Ahmed Moalim Fiqi and Qatari Defence Minister Saud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan Al Thani on the sidelines of the Doha International Maritime Defence Exhibition and Conference (DIMDEX), according to Somalia’s state news agency SONNA.
Under the deal, both sides agreed to expand defense collaboration, establish frameworks for closer security coordination, and support joint initiatives to promote security and stability at regional and international levels.
SONNA said the agreement reflects deepening strategic ties between the Federal Republic of Somalia and the State of Qatar, noting shared interests in broadening cooperation across defense and security sectors.
The signing took place as Qatar hosts the ninth edition of DIMDEX at the Qatar National Convention Centre, inaugurated earlier on Monday by Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
The four-day exhibition brings together more than 200 local and international defense companies spanning maritime, land and air domains, and has attracted over 110 high-level official delegations from around the world.
