Saudi female authors shine at Riyadh International Book Fair
Writers highlight creativity, resilience, and storytelling as Saudi Arabia’s literary scene grows under Vision 2030 cultural initiatives
RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (MNTV) — The Riyadh International Book Fair 2025 placed a strong spotlight on Saudi Arabia’s female authors, celebrating their creativity, voices, and expanding presence within the Kingdom’s evolving literary landscape.
Held at Princess Noura bint Abdulrahman University, the 10-day event showcased emerging and established writers who shared their works and the inspirations behind them, reflecting the country’s growing investment in arts and literature as part of Vision 2030.
Among them was Maha Al-Rasheed, author of “Stories of My City,” who described her book, to Arab News, as “a tribute to the cities that shape us as much as we shape them.”
Her collection explores the layers of urban life, weaving nostalgia, memory, and emotion through the meeting of old streets and modern realities.
Fantasy writer Najah Salama presented her fifth book, “Quoot: The Jewelry Collector,” an Arabic-language novel inspired by mermaid legends and pirate lore. She described it as “a sea fantasy where demons, mermaids, and time travelers collide,” blending mythology with imagination.
Debut author Munira Al-Eidan introduced her poetry and short text collection, “In the Depth of Our Minds,” which delves into the psychological challenges of modern life. “This book is the result of three years of writing and reflection,” she said, emphasizing themes of resilience, vulnerability, and self-discovery.
Also taking part was Amal Hamdan, a journalist and cultural writer who launched her first book, “Amal’s Impression.” She said the experience of publishing her debut work fulfilled a lifelong dream and hoped it would inspire young Saudis to pursue their creative ambitions.
The fair provided dedicated platforms for both male and female writers, offering visitors direct engagement with authors and opportunities for discussion, mentorship, and exchange of ideas.
Organized by the Literature, Publishing and Translation Commission of the Saudi Ministry of Culture, this year’s edition welcomed Uzbekistan as guest of honor, reinforcing the event’s growing international profile and cultural exchange focus.
