Salon des Arts fosters Franco-Saudi artistic collaboration in Jeddah
Event at French Residence highlights creative exchange, launches new artist network linking Saudi talent with Paris-based residencies
JEDDAH, Saudi Arabia (MNTV) — The French Residence in Jeddah hosted the inaugural Salon des Arts, a cultural evening uniting Saudi and French artists through music, visual art, and dialogue aimed at strengthening bilateral cultural exchange.
The event showcased live performances, visual presentations, and discussions emphasizing the growing creative partnership between France and Saudi Arabia.
It also marked the launch of a new community for former artists-in-residence at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris, supported by Saudi artists Zahra Bundakji and Danah Qari.
Participating artists included Joud Fahmy, Zahiyah Al-Raddadi, Bricklab, and Nour Gary, alongside the French music group Oriki, currently in residence at Hayy Cinema in collaboration with Saudi artist Salma Murad.
French Consul General Mohamed Nehad praised the initiative, describing artist residencies as “a startup cocoon” that nurtures creativity and global connection. “Gatherings like this reconnect artists, showcase their work, and celebrate the shared spirit of creation that unites France and Saudi Arabia,” he said.
He highlighted the vibrancy of the Saudi art scene, noting that young Saudi artists bring “fresh energy and ideas” that continue to inspire cultural collaboration.
Cultural Attaché Quentin Richard said the program reflects the ongoing artistic dialogue between the two nations, adding that residencies in Paris and Jeddah “foster creativity, mutual respect, and cultural discovery.”
Oriki vocalist Woz Kaly described the experience as deeply emotional, saying the group’s music creates a bridge between film and audience. “Our performance invited listeners to imagine cinematic stories through sound — a glimpse of our ongoing cine-concert project,” he said.
Artist Zahra Bundakji said the Salon allowed audiences to witness “the unseen side of artistic creation,” offering insight into the experimentation and emotion behind each work. “Between the studio and the finished piece lies a space where ideas and community are born,” she added.
Fellow artist Danah Qari said the gathering created a space for genuine connection. “Art mirrors life, and life mirrors art,” she said. “Events like this remind us that creativity comes from our shared stories, emotions, and dreams.”
The French Consulate announced that new artistic residencies will begin in December, in partnership with the Tariq Abdulhakim Museum and Athr Gallery, further expanding cultural cooperation between France and Saudi Arabia.
