Qatar to Host Aquabike World Championship Finale
Top global racers set for high-speed showdowns as final UIM-ABP round brings 2025 season to a close
DOHA, Qatar (MNTV) — Qatar is set to host the final round of the 2025 UIM-ABP Aquabike World Championship this weekend, marking a grand finale for the global jet-ski racing season.
The event, organized by Aquabike Promotion in collaboration with the Doha Marine Sports Club (DMSC), will take place at the Old Doha Port Grand Prix of Qatar from October 29 to 31.
The three-day competition will also feature the Runabout GP2 Asian Continental Championship, drawing 90 riders from 19 countries.
Among them are 28 contenders in Runabout GP1, 23 in Ski Division GP1, 13 in Ski Ladies GP1, and 12 in Freestyle. The regional segment will include 14 racers from across the Gulf region, ensuring a vibrant international and local presence.
Corsican rider François Medori heads into the Doha finale with a maximum 100 points after four consecutive victories in Runabout GP1 Motos.
He will seek to defend his narrow 16-point lead over Jeremy Perez, while reigning world champion Samuel Johansson remains in contention despite setbacks in Sardinia earlier this month.
The elite lineup includes Pierre-François Savelli, Robin Laforge, György Kasza, Andrzej Wisniewski, Martin Doulik, and Linus Lindberg.
Qatar’s own Khalid Al-Mohannadi and Waleed Al-Sharshani will compete alongside Emirati racers Khalid Al-Maazmi, Khalifa Belsalah, and Mohammed Mohsin.
Five-time world champion Yousef Al-Abdulrazzaq of Kuwait is making a much-anticipated return, joined by compatriots Rashed Al-Dawas and Ahmad Al-Khadhari.
In Ski Division GP1, Denmark’s Oliver Koch Hansen holds an 11-point lead over French rider Jéremy Poret.
The division has seen fierce competition this season, including standout performances by Belgian Quinten Bossche, who secured three Moto wins despite multiple retirements due to mechanical issues.
Other notable contenders include Japan’s Toshi O’Hara, Mickael Poret, Kevin Reiterer, and Saudi Arabia’s Nizar Abuljadayel, the Kingdom’s sole representative in the category.
The women’s Ski Ladies GP1 division promises an equally thrilling conclusion, with France’s Estelle Poret leading the standings by seven points over Norway’s Benedicte Drange. Defending champion Jasmiin Ypraus of Estonia trails closely in third. The class features 13 competitors, including Italy’s Naomi Benini, France’s Virginie Morlaes, and European champion Jessica Chavanne, all vying for podium finishes in Doha.
In the Freestyle category, defending European champion Roberto Mariani of Italy will battle it out with Abu Dhabi’s Rashid Al-Mulla, with only 10 points separating them. Portugal’s Paulo Nuñes and Italy’s Massimo Accumolo round out the leading contenders.
Qatar will have a strong home showing with six Freestyle riders, including Abdulaziz Al-Abdullah, Nayef Al-Nama, Salem Al-Kubaisi, Issa Al-Assi, Abdulrahman Al-Sulaiti, and Bader Al-Abdullah.
Four Qatari participants will also compete in the Runabout GP2 Asian Continental Championship, alongside racers from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait.
The event schedule begins Wednesday with registration and scrutineering, followed by free practice sessions on Thursday morning. Competitive racing begins Friday with multiple Moto rounds, concluding Saturday with the final championship-deciding races and a Freestyle night show at the Old Doha Port.
The Doha finale marks not only the end of the 2025 Aquabike World Championship season but also Qatar’s continued emergence as a regional hub for international motorsports.
