Qatar Airways completes Starlink rollout on Boeing 777 fleet
Airline offers free Wi-Fi speeds up to 500 Mbps, eyes Airbus A350 upgrade next, providing passengers with latest luxury
DOHA, Qatar (MNTV) — Qatar Airways has successfully completed the installation of Starlink high-speed satellite internet across its entire Boeing 777 fleet, becoming the first and only airline in the Middle East and North Africa to offer the service and the largest global operator of Starlink-equipped widebody aircraft.
The milestone was achieved in just nine months—nearly half the originally scheduled timeline—thanks to an accelerated retrofit process that reduced installation time to under 10 hours per aircraft, enabling the airline to avoid flight disruptions during the upgrade.
The airline now offers complimentary gate-to-gate Wi-Fi connectivity with speeds of up to 500 megabits per second across its Boeing 777s, available to passengers in both Premium and Economy classes.
The service supports high-bandwidth activities such as streaming, gaming, video calls, and file sharing, matching or exceeding typical home internet performance.
“This achievement reflects our commitment to delivering an unmatched digital experience to our passengers,” said Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer. “We promised the fastest and most seamless in-flight connectivity in the industry—and we’ve delivered it, faster and at greater scale than anyone expected.”
Qatar Airways, recently named the World’s Best Airline by Skytrax 2025, first launched its Starlink service in October 2024.
Since then, the airline has operated more than 15,000 Starlink-enabled flights, transforming long-haul travel with next-generation onboard connectivity.
With the Boeing 777 upgrade now complete, the airline has turned its focus to equipping its Airbus A350 fleet with Starlink technology.
The installation programme is expected to be finalized within the next year, extending the high-speed internet service across a broader network of more than 170 destinations.
This digital transformation is part of Qatar Airways’ broader strategy to enhance the passenger experience through technology, luxury, and global reach, reinforcing its status as a pioneer in aviation innovation.
