Philippines Muslim region governors back interim chief minister
Interim Chief Minister Abdulraof Macacua has earned the solid backing of five provincial governors of the Bangsamoro
COTABATO CITY, Philippines (MNTV) — Interim Chief Minister Abdulraof Macacua has earned the solid backing of five provincial governors of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), reports Inquirer.
“We stand united in our unwavering support for Interim Chief Minister Abdulraof Macacua during this extended transition period,” said the statement signed by governors Mujiv Hataman of Basilan, Mamintal Adiong Jr. of Lanao del Sur, Tucao Mastura of Maguindanao del Norte, Ali Midtimbang of Maguindnao del Sur, and Yshmael Sali of Tawi-Tawi.
“Under his steady and inclusive leadership, we have witnessed renewed unity, cooperation and shared purpose in advancing peace and development across the Bangsamoro region,” the provincial chief executives noted.
They added: “His dedication to good governance and fostering close partnerships with local government units has strengthened our resolve to work together for the continued progress of our people.”
Macacua took the helm of the BARMM last March, following the resignation of then Chief Minister Ahod Ebrahim, and the decision of President Marcos to appoint a third set of members of the Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA), the region’s transitional government.
The BTA will continue to be in power on a holdover capacity until the first duly elected members of the BARMM parliament shall assume power after the election not later than March 31, 2026, as set by the Supreme Court.
The provincial governors said they affirmed their collective confidence in Macacua’s leadership, “a partnership we intend to uphold as we move forward in sustaining the gains of peace and development in the Bangsamoro.”
“We urged our fellow Bangsamoro to stand behind our shared pursuit of genuine and meaningful autonomy in the BARMM,” the provincial governors said.
