Pakistani confirmed as world’s youngest university chancellor
Guinness World Records recognizes 29-year-old Mohammad Shahzeb Awan, spotlighting Pakistan’s rising academic leadership
ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (MNTV) — Guinness World Records has officially recognized Mohammad Shahzeb Awan, the 29-year-old chancellor of the National Institute of Technology (NIT), as the world’s youngest male university chancellor, drawing global attention to Pakistan’s emerging generation of academic leaders.
Awan heads the NIT, a federally chartered institution established under Act No. VI of 2025. The university operates in academic partnership with Arizona State University — one of the United States’ leading innovation-focused institutions — to bring American-style teaching, practical learning and modern academic standards to Pakistan.
Awan said his journey was shaped by the loss of his father 11 years ago, a moment he described as transformative in guiding him toward public service and education. “Your circumstances don’t define you. Your choices do,” he said, expressing hope that young Pakistanis will continue striving for excellence.
NIT offers industry-centered degree programs designed to equip students with practical skills and clear pathways to both local and global opportunities. Its model emphasizes hands-on learning, career development and exposure to international trends.
Calling the world record “a message of hope” for Pakistan’s youth, Awan said age should never be viewed as a barrier to leadership. “This is just the beginning,” he said, voicing confidence that NIT will continue expanding its impact.
The institute says its mission is to prepare students with quality education, real-world experience and the confidence to compete in the job market of the future.
