OIC urges UN Security Council to act over Israeli strike on Qatar
The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), chaired by Türkiye, has urged the UN Security Council to hold Israel accountable
NEW YORK, United States (MNTV) – The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), chaired by Türkiye, has urged the UN Security Council to hold Israel accountable after its airstrike in Doha that targeted Hamas officials.
Speaking on behalf of the OIC, Türkiye’s UN envoy Ahmet Yildiz condemned “in the strongest terms this despicable and unwarranted attack against the State of Qatar,” calling it a “flagrant violation” of Qatar’s sovereignty and a threat to regional and global peace.
Yildiz described the strike as “state terrorism” and part of Israel’s “systematic policies to destabilize the region.” He voiced the OIC’s solidarity with Qatar, saying it had the right “to respond decisively to any reckless breach or aggression.”
“We call on the Security Council to take firm measures in the face of this unjustified use of armed force,” he said, urging the body to “hold Israel accountable for this act of aggression.”
The Israeli attack on Tuesday targeted a Hamas negotiating team meeting in Doha to discuss a US-backed ceasefire plan for Gaza. The strike killed several people, including Hammam al-Hayya, son of the group’s Gaza leader Khalil al-Hayya, along with his aide Jihad Lubad, three other associates, and Qatari security officer Badr al-Dosari. Hamas leaders Khalil al-Hayya and Zaher Jabarin reportedly escaped unharmed.
