New Yorkers voting in record numbers as Mamdani, Cuomo, and Sliwa battle for City Hall
New York City is voting across its five boroughs — Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Staten Island — in one of its most closely watched mayoral races
NEW YORK (MNTV) – New York City is voting across its five boroughs — Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Staten Island — in one of its most closely watched mayoral races in years.
More than five million New Yorkers are registered to vote this year, with early ballots already crossing 735,000 — the highest in a non-presidential city election.
Brooklyn and Manhattan reported the largest early turnouts.
The main contenders are Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani, former Governor Andrew Cuomo running as an independent, and Republican Curtis Sliwa.
Several smaller candidates are also on the ballot, including Jim Walden, Irene Estrada, and Joseph Hernandez.
Mamdani, a progressive state assemblyman from Queens, campaigned on affordable housing and economic equality.
Cuomo focused on experience and security, while Sliwa pushed crime prevention and public order.
City analysts say more than half of newly registered voters are under 30, and their participation could shape the outcome.
With housing costs, safety, and the city’s post-pandemic recovery topping voter concerns, polls suggest a tight race as ballots are counted late into the night.
