New York City Mayor Mamdani condemns US-Israel strikes on Iran
Zohran Mamdani spoke out sharply on Saturday against the joint American and Israeli military campaign targeting Iran
NEW YORK (MNTV) – New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani spoke out sharply on Saturday against the joint American and Israeli military campaign targeting Iran, warning of serious consequences from what he described as a dramatic and dangerous widening of the conflict.
In a post on X, Mamdani called the strikes “a catastrophic escalation in an illegal war of aggression,” pointing to the bombing of cities and civilian casualties as evidence that a troubling new front had been opened.
He argued that the American public had no appetite for another war, particularly one aimed at forcing regime change in a foreign country.
The mayor framed the issue in domestic terms as well, suggesting that Americans are far more concerned with economic hardship than overseas military campaigns, and that their priorities lie with peace and cost-of-living relief rather than foreign intervention.
Mamdani also addressed the situation on the ground in New York City, saying he had spoken with the police commissioner and emergency management officials, with enhanced patrols already being deployed as a precautionary measure.
He offered a direct message of reassurance to Iranian New Yorkers, telling them they are an integral part of the city’s community and would be kept safe.
His comments followed the early Saturday joint assault launched by the U.S. and Israel, which both governments framed as necessary to neutralize threats posed by the Iranian government.
Iran responded with retaliatory missile and drone strikes targeting Israeli territory and American military installations across the region.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi clarified that Tehran’s counterstrikes were directed solely at military targets and were not intended as attacks on the host nations where those bases are located.
