Mayor Raises Concerns About India-Based Gang Operating in Brampton
Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown has sounded the alarm regarding the India-based Lawrence Bishnoi gang, which is reportedly luring vulnerable youth from the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) into its network and using them to carry out various violent incidents in Brampton and Mississauga.
Mayor Brown is urging the federal government to designate this gang as a terrorist organization, as it has expanded its operations throughout the Peel region and poses a significant threat. He noted that the gang has been involved in multiple violent incidents in Brampton and Mississauga as their influence continues to grow.
Lawrence Bishnoi, the leader of the gang, has been imprisoned in India since 2014; however, reports indicate that he is still orchestrating operations through associates in Canada. The Bishnoi gang reportedly includes around 700 shooters worldwide, with Indian officials labeling it as a “terror syndicate.”
In a recent media interview, Brown stated, “This isn’t just a local issue; it’s transnational crime. The level of criminality is akin to a terrorist organization.” He emphasized that the federal government should prioritize public safety over trade relations. His comments follow a recent G7 meeting, during which Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Prime Minister Mark Carney discussed rebuilding ties.
