Mauritania launches online electricity services platform
New digital system enables remote access to Somelec services, supporting government push for efficient, accessible public service delivery
NOUAKCHOTT, Mauritania (MNTV) — Mauritania has introduced a new package of digital services for the Mauritanian Electricity Company (Somelec), allowing citizens to manage electricity-related procedures online through the government’s “My Services” public portal.
According to Tech Africa, the launch ceremony was held in Nouakchott and attended by Minister of Digital Transformation and Administration Modernization Ahmed Salem Ould Bode and Minister of Petroleum and Energy Mohamed Ould Mohamed Melainine Ould Khaled.
Through the new platform, users can complete a range of electricity services remotely, including applying for new subscriptions, cancelling services, transferring subscriptions between residences, paying bills, reporting technical faults, and monitoring electricity consumption automatically.
Officials say the initiative eliminates the need for in-person visits, improving convenience while increasing efficiency in service delivery across the electricity sector.
The move is part of the government’s broader “Supporting Sector Digital Transformation” program, which aims to simplify public services, expand access to essential utilities, and ensure round-the-clock availability for citizens.
Authorities say the launch reflects Mauritania’s wider commitment to modernizing state services and strengthening digital accessibility in key public sectors.
