Mamdani pushes for door-to-door campaign
New York City’s Democratic mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani mobilized his campaign volunteers for an intensive door-to-door outreach
NEW YORK, United States (MNTV) – New York City’s Democratic mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani mobilized his campaign volunteers for an intensive door-to-door outreach on Sunday, coinciding with the final day of early voting.
While speculation circulated that the campaign might have broken a canvassing record, Mamdani himself downplayed any single campaign’s achievement, saying such efforts were “a collective push across the state.” Campaign staff declined to confirm whether they had surpassed the record.
Among the volunteers was 18-year-old Ella Devi, who described herself as a “baby canvasser.” Speaking to the Washington Examiner at Union Square after a midday shift, she said she had knocked on about 100 doors, though many residents were out enjoying the New York City Marathon.
Devi, a downtown Manhattan resident, said her support for Mamdani stemmed from his commitment to affordability.
“I want to see New York become more affordable, even though I don’t personally benefit from his policies. I know many others do,” she said.
Mamdani’s field operation has drawn praise for its energy and organization.
Assemblymember Yuh-Line Niou expressed confidence that the campaign would reach its door-knocking goal. “I think they will absolutely be able to make their goal,” she said, emphasizing that it was a collective effort to turn out voters.
Early voting numbers offered a promising sign for Mamdani’s campaign. More than 150,000 New Yorkers cast their ballots on the final day, with voters aged 18 to 29 already surpassing their 2021 turnout levels — a demographic seen as crucial for his candidacy.
Mamdani currently leads New York City’s mayoral pack, outpacing other high-profile contenders, including Andrew Cuomo and Curtis Sliwa.
On Sunday, he received a high-profile endorsement from progressive senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT), who urged supporters to help Mamdani achieve what he called “one of the great political upsets in modern American history.” Sanders wrote on X: “Don’t ruminate. Don’t hesitate. Don’t procrastinate.”
