Kyrgyzstan earns spot among world’s best tourist destinations
The annual New York Times ranking spans a wide range of destinations, from major global cities and cultural hubs to remote natural wonders
BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan (MNTV) — Kyrgyzstan has earned a place on The New York Times’ list of the world’s best travel destinations for 2026, with the country’s iconic Tien Shan Mountains cited among 52 must-visit locations worldwide, according to state news agency Kabar.
According to Kyrgyzstan’s tourism department, the inclusion underscores rising international interest in the country’s natural landscapes and cultural heritage.
The annual New York Times ranking spans a wide range of destinations, from major global cities and cultural hubs to remote natural wonders.
The Tien Shan mountain ranges, long regarded as a national symbol of Kyrgyzstan, were highlighted as one of Central Asia’s most impressive natural complexes and a destination worthy of global travelers’ attention in the coming year.
The 2026 list reflects diverse travel themes, including a journey through “Revolutionary America” marking the United States’ 250th anniversary, as well as vibrant urban centers such as Warsaw and Bangkok, and notable natural sites across Asia, Africa and other regions.
Kyrgyz officials described the recognition as a significant boost to the country’s international tourism profile.
The tourism department said it will continue promoting Kyrgyzstan as a safe, sustainable and attractive destination, while prioritizing infrastructure development, support for local tourism businesses and participation in international exhibitions and forums.
The announcement comes amid growing regional visibility for Central Asia’s tourism sector.
Earlier, Tajikistan was featured on Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel 2026 list, which highlights 25 of the world’s most exciting destinations.
