Kazakhstan wins five golds at Thailand Open boxing tournament
Kazakh boxers shine in Bangkok, finishing second overall in one of Asia’s top international competitions
ASTANA, Kazakhstan (MNTV) — Kazakhstan’s national boxing team delivered a standout performance at the 2025 Thailand Open, securing five gold medals on the final day of the prestigious event, which concluded on June 1.
Held in Bangkok, the tournament featured 186 athletes from 17 countries and is regarded as one of the premier boxing competitions in Asia.
According to Kursiv.media, Kazakhstan’s 20-member squad walked away with a total of 12 medals—five gold, two silver, and five bronze—finishing second in the overall medal tally behind Uzbekistan.
In the men’s division, Torekhan Sabyrkhan (70 kg) and Dias Molzhigitov (80 kg) claimed gold, defeating opponents from Uzbekistan and China, respectively. Sabyrkhan won by unanimous decision, while Molzhigitov secured a 4-1 victory.
Kazakhstan’s women boxers also delivered strong results. Viktoriya Grafeyeva (60 kg), Natalia Bogdanova (70 kg), and Yeldana Talipova (+80 kg) each won gold. Grafeyeva and Talipova overcame challengers from China and India, while Bogdanova outboxed her Chinese opponent to earn a unanimous decision.
Nadezhda Ryabets (75 kg) and Gulsaya Yerzhan (80 kg) took silver medals, while five athletes—Nurzat Ongarov, Nursultan Altynbek, Dulat Bekbauov, Bekzat Tanatar, and Daniyar Rakhymberdinov—each earned bronze across various weight classes.
Uzbekistan topped the medal standings with five golds, four silvers, and seven bronzes. Host country Thailand came in third with a total of 12 medals, including three golds.
Kazakhstan’s strong showing in Bangkok follows their dominance at the 2025 ASBC U22 & Youth Asian Boxing Championships in Sri Lanka, where they claimed 41 of the 50 available gold medals across youth divisions—further underscoring the country’s rising status in international boxing.
