Jordan assures Iran territory will not be used for attacks
Amman says it will block any military action against Iran, backing diplomacy amid rising US regional pressure
AMMAN, Jordan (MNTV) — Jordan has assured Iran that its territory and airspace will not be used for any military attack, reaffirming a policy of non-involvement as regional tensions intensify amid US threats against Tehran.
Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi conveyed the assurance during a phone call with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, stressing that Amman would not allow its land or skies to become a platform for strikes against Iran, according to statements from both foreign ministries.
“Jordan will not be a battleground in any regional conflict or a launching pad for military action against Iran,” Safadi said, adding that the kingdom would not permit any violation of its airspace or actions that threaten its security or citizens.
Safadi also warned that escalating tensions could undermine stability across the entire region, emphasizing that Jordan, along with other regional states, views diplomacy as the only viable path to resolving disputes.
Iran’s foreign ministry said Araghchi outlined Tehran’s position on pursuing diplomatic means to protect Iran’s national rights and interests while safeguarding regional peace and stability.
The exchange comes as tensions remain high between Iran and the United States, with Washington continuing a military buildup across West Asia, including the Persian Gulf, alongside repeated warnings of possible military action.
US Central Command has expanded its regional deployments, citing “security” concerns, while Iran has argued that the growing American military presence fuels instability and heightens the risk of conflict.
Iranian officials have warned that any aggression would be met with a decisive response. On February 1, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei cautioned that an attack on Iran would ignite a broader regional war.
