Jeddah ranked Saudi Arabia’s top city for quality of life, second in Arab world
Coastal projects, green spaces, and urban upgrades boost city’s global standing
RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (MNTV) — Jeddah has secured the 74th spot worldwide in the 2025 Quality of Life Index by Numbeo, making it the highest-ranked city in Saudi Arabia and second in the Arab world after Muscat, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
Officials attributed the ranking to major improvements in safety, healthcare, infrastructure, and modern public facilities, aligned with the Quality of Life Program under Saudi Vision 2030.
Jeddah Municipality has spearheaded landmark projects aimed at reshaping the city’s urban landscape and enhancing residents’ well-being.
Among the most notable initiatives are five integrated waterfront developments, which include walking and cycling tracks, children’s play areas, public squares, and art installations.
These projects also feature cafes, restaurants, piers, and rest areas that bring residents and visitors closer to the Red Sea, making coastal life central to the city’s identity.
“Jeddah has become more pedestrian-friendly. There are now vast areas for outdoor activities, especially in cooler months. The sea is part of our identity, and seeing the city adapt to it connects us to nature,” resident Hala Hussain told Arab News.
The municipality has also introduced continuous beach maintenance programs to preserve cleanliness, protect marine ecosystems, and raise public awareness about environmental conservation.
Over 445 parks have been opened across the city, including specialized green spaces such as Al-Saja Park, while Prince Majid Park—covering more than 130,000 square meters—has become a major gathering spot with shaded paths and family-oriented facilities.
Urban upgrades extend to expanded pedestrian pathways, modern lighting systems, and improved sidewalks designed to increase safety and encourage physical activity. Waste management programs, including waste sorting and resource recovery, have further improved air quality and reduced pollution.
In addition, neighborhood centers and central areas have been revitalized with upgraded commercial facilities, improved public services, and spaces dedicated to community activities. Street vendor regulation, highway cleaning, and removal of unused barriers have also contributed to a healthier and more accessible urban environment.
Officials emphasized that Jeddah’s balanced approach to coastal development, green spaces, and community services has strengthened its role as both an economic and tourism hub.
The city now stands as a model of urban living where modern infrastructure and natural surroundings blend to deliver a high quality of life for both residents and visitors.
