Iraq secures seat on Asian Air Sports Federation Executive Office
Harith Al-Kinani elected to represent Iraq for four-year term, marking milestone in international air sports presence
BAGHDAD, Iraq (MNTV) — Iraq has won a seat in the Executive Office of the Asian Air Sports Federation, in a development hailed as a significant milestone for the country’s growing presence in international sporting arenas.
The Iraqi National Olympic Committee announced the achievement on Wednesday, confirming that Harith Al-Kinani, President of the Iraqi Central Air Sports Federation, was elected to the Executive Office during elections held in the United Arab Emirates.
Delegations from various Asian national federations participated in the vote, according to Iraqi News Agency.
Al-Kinani will represent Iraq for a four-year term, marking the first time the nation has secured such a position within the continental air sports body.
The Olympic Committee described the development as “a new sporting achievement” and a reflection of increasing confidence in Iraq’s capabilities on the international stage.
In a statement, the Iraqi Central Air Sports Federation emphasized that this success aligns with its broader strategy to strengthen regional cooperation and enhance Iraq’s participation in global air sports competitions.
It also underscored the importance of deepening partnerships with Asian federations and fostering local talent to raise Iraq’s profile in the sector.
“This is an important step in our long-term vision,” the Federation said. “We are committed to working intensively in the coming phase to solidify Iraq’s standing on the regional and global air sports map.”
The victory comes amid broader efforts by Iraqi sports authorities to expand the country’s engagement in international federations and secure leadership roles that contribute to the development of niche and emerging sports disciplines.
