Iran wins silver in men’s kabaddi at Asian Youth Games
Team delivers strong performance, narrowly loses 35–32 to India in final match in Bahrain
MANAMA, Bahrain (MNTV) — Iran’s men’s kabaddi team secured the silver medal at the 2025 Asian Youth Games after a close 35–32 defeat to India in Thursday’s final in Bahrain.
The Iranian side showed remarkable consistency throughout the tournament, opening with a commanding 72–29 victory over Thailand before a narrow 48–55 loss to Bangladesh.
The team then dominated subsequent matches, overpowering Pakistan 74–23, host nation Bahrain 92–17, and Sri Lanka 92–23 to reach the final showdown.
The competition featured seven participating nations — Iran, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Bahrain, Sri Lanka, and Thailand — highlighting the growing popularity of kabaddi across Asia.
Alireza Pakdel, head of Iran’s delegation to the Islamic Solidarity Games, commended the young players for their spirited performance, calling the silver medal “as valuable as gold.”
“The boys fought hard and displayed great composure under pressure from the Indian supporters,” Pakdel said. “Their disappointment reflects their hunger for victory, but this result is still a major achievement.”
Pakdel also lauded the Iranian women’s kabaddi team, which earned its own silver medal after a competitive final against India, further strengthening Iran’s standing in Asian kabaddi.
