IOM warns Tajiks of UK job scams circulating on messaging apps
International Organization for Migration has warned Tajik citizens against fraudulent job offers claiming to provide employment in the United Kingdom
DUSHANBE, Tajikistan (MNTV) — The International Organization for Migration has warned Tajik citizens against fraudulent job offers claiming to provide employment in the United Kingdom, saying such invitations circulated on messaging apps are fake.
In a statement posted on its official Facebook page, the IOM office in Tajikistan said job advertisements and invitations shared via WhatsApp and Telegram should not be trusted. The agency stressed that legitimate employers do not recruit workers or conduct official communications through messaging platforms.
“Do not trust job advertisements on social media, as most of them may be fraudulent. All information should be carefully verified,” the IOM said, adding that for Tajik citizens there are no legal employment options in the UK outside the Seasonal Worker Program.
The organization advised those interested in seasonal work in the UK to register only through the official websites of licensed companies. It noted that it has previously published information on employers authorized to hire foreign workers.
“If you plan to travel to the UK for seasonal employment, register only on official company websites. This will help you avoid fraud and protect your rights,” the statement said.
The IOM also emphasized that employment opportunities in the UK remain limited for most Tajik nationals. The most accessible option is seasonal agricultural work, including fruit picking, greenhouse jobs and field labor.
Such employment is carried out under the UK Seasonal Worker visa, which is issued for a maximum of six months. The visa cannot be extended or converted to another category, and workers must return to their home country once their contracts expire.
