Indonesian bank to finance 150,000 low-emission houses by 2029
A state-owned bank in Indonesia plans to finance 10,000 low-emission homes by the end of this year and 150,000 by 2029
JAKARTA, Indonesia (MNTV) – A state-owned bank in Indonesia plans to finance 10,000 low-emission homes by the end of this year and 150,000 by 2029, reports Vietnam Plus.
PT Bank Tabungan Negara (Persero) Tbk (BTN) is actively connecting SME producers of environmentally friendly materials with housing developer partners. BTN aims for at least 15% use of environmentally friendly materials in each low-emission housing unit starting in 2025.
BTN Director of Risk Management Setiyo Wibowo emphasised that climate change is a global reality whose impacts are already being felt in Indonesia.
Setiyo said this is BTN’s effort to support President Prabowo Subianto’s vision of achieving a green economy. This year, the country hopes to have 10,000 low-emission homes.
Setiyo noted that if the target of 150,000 low-emission housing units is achieved in 2029, it will result in a reduction of over 2.2 million kilogrammes of plastic waste.
Additionally, there will be a reduction of 2,425 tonnes of carbon emissions, equivalent to planting 110,000 trees.
