Regional committee agrees on joint strategy to enhance e-learning, develop Gulf-focused AI model, and promote digital innovation
RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (MNTV) — Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states have agreed to collaborate on developing Arabic-based artificial intelligence systems to strengthen e-learning and digital education across the region, during a key meeting hosted by Saudi Arabia’s National Center for e-Learning.
The 24th meeting of the Committee of e-Learning Officials, held on November 6 in Riyadh, brought together the GCC director of education, university deans, and senior officials from higher education institutions, along with experts in digital transformation and AI applications in education.
The discussions focused on enhancing Gulf cooperation in e-learning, exchanging technical expertise, and building innovative digital education frameworks that align with future development goals.
Participants emphasized the importance of advancing AI governance and promoting the responsible integration of emerging technologies into academic systems.
Attendees reviewed the latest initiatives by Saudi and Gulf universities and discussed regulatory frameworks designed to ensure ethical and effective use of AI in learning environments. The meeting also underscored the need for continued coordination among GCC states to keep pace with rapid global changes in education technology.
As part of its final recommendations, the committee endorsed a proposal from Saudi Arabia’s National Center for e-Learning to adopt a unified reference model for AI in education, aligned with the committee’s strategic vision.
It also approved plans to develop a Gulf-wide Arabic language model to support e-learning platforms and AI-driven educational tools in higher education.
The initiative marks a significant step toward establishing the Gulf region as a hub for Arabic-language digital innovation and smart learning technologies.
